From the title track "I Need Some Money" that makes you literally jump out of your seat and freak down to the ground, to the bluesy funk trip that is "Bumpin". And "Carnival", the synth work in that is to die for, with some early drum machine work outs that are way ahead of their time/5(50).

I Need Some Moneyis best understood as an analog to those albums rather than in the context of Harris’ earlier work. Harris makes full use of the tsk-tsk-tapping drum machine that had recently become Sly’s obsession, and he uses his voice to inhabit the same claustrophobic, narcotized space that was Sly’s stomping ground.

Eddie Harris is one of the premire incorporators of funk into his jazz-fusion style. He was doing it before anyone, 'cept maybe James Brown and a few others. This CD is his most funky, and has a version of 'I need some money' that can't be found on any other albulm. None of you crackers should be without this one in your collection/5(6).
  7. Faugul says:
Eddie continues the funky groove begun on Instant Funk, and smoothed out over albums like I Need Some Money – and although jazz fans probably gave him hell for going this way, we think this is actually a pretty darn great album! The record takes all of Eddie's experimentation with .
